Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about Chronoglyph BETA
General Questions
Q:
What is Chronoglyph and how does it work?
Chronoglyph is a personal memory and knowledge management system that uses AI to help you organize your thoughts, experiences, and reflections. You chat naturally with the system, and it automatically categorizes and timestamps your entries, making them easy to find and reflect on later.
Q:
What's the difference between VEIL, ABYSS, and DREAMS?
- VEIL: For everyday moments, observations, and general journaling
- ABYSS: For deeper, more introspective reflections and private thoughts
- DREAMS: Dedicated space for recording dreams and sleep-related experiences
Each interface routes to different "banks" (SANCTUM for facts, NOETICA for feelings, DREAMS for dreams) based on the content.
Q:
Is my data private and secure?
Yes! All your entries are stored locally in your database. The only external communication is with the AI service (Anthropic's Claude) for generating responses. Your data is never shared with third parties or used for training. See our
Privacy Policy for details.
Using the System
Q:
How do I log past events?
Just mention when something happened naturally in your message. For example:
- "Yesterday at 3pm I had coffee with Sarah"
- "This morning I went for a run"
- "Last week I finished that book"
The system will automatically timestamp the entry to the correct date and time.
Q:
What's the difference between AI Mode and Logger Mode?
- AI Mode: The default mode where you have a conversation with the AI, which responds to your messages and helps organize your thoughts
- Logger Mode: Quick logging without AI interaction - just saves your entry directly to the appropriate banks
Logger Mode is faster and uses fewer messages from your monthly limit.
Q:
Can I edit or delete entries?
Yes! From the Timeline view, you can edit entry content or delete entries you no longer want. Archives of conversations are permanent, but individual timeline entries can be managed.
Subscription & Limits
Q:
What are the tier limits and how do they work?
Chronoglyph has three subscription tiers:
- Basic (€10/month): 300 AI messages per month
- Plus (€18/month): 1,000 AI messages per month
- Unlimited (€30/month): Unlimited AI messages
The message counter resets at the start of each billing month. You can see your current usage in the sidebar.
Q:
What happens if I reach my message limit?
You can still use Logger Mode to add entries without using AI messages. To continue using AI Mode, you'll need to upgrade to a higher tier or wait until your limit resets next month.
Dates, Times & Timezones
Q:
How does the system handle dates and times?
Chronoglyph intelligently extracts dates from your natural language. When you say "yesterday at 3pm", the system places that entry at the correct date and time on your timeline. All times are stored in UTC and displayed in your local timezone for accuracy across time zones.
Q:
Why might I see different times when traveling?
Chronoglyph displays times in your current local timezone. If you travel to a different timezone, times will adjust to show your local time. The actual stored time never changes - only the display adapts. This ensures your timeline always makes sense relative to where you are.
Q:
How do I log old stories from years ago?
You can tell multi-message stories from the past! Start by establishing context:
- Message 1: "In 2018 I lived in Barcelona"
- Message 2: "I used to go to this amazing cafe" → logged as 2018
- Message 3: "I met so many interesting people" → logged as 2018
The system remembers the time context for up to 5 messages. Say "today" or "yesterday" to reset back to the present.
Q:
What happens once an entry is on my timeline?
Once placed, it stays. Timeline entries are anchored to their event date permanently. Even if you change timezones or edit the entry, the historical placement remains. This preserves the integrity of your personal timeline.
FUTURE Bank & Goals
Q:
What is the FUTURE bank?
The FUTURE bank stores goals, aspirations, scheduled events, and anything happening later. When you mention future dates like "tomorrow", "next week", or "planning to learn Python", these are automatically categorized as FUTURE entries. Access it via the clock icon in the sidebar.
Q:
What happens when a FUTURE event passes?
When the date of a FUTURE entry passes, it's automatically marked as "passed" (shown with grey styling). This helps you track what goals you've achieved or events that have occurred. You can review and reflect on them anytime.
Technical Questions
Q:
Can I export my data?
Yes! Go to
Settings → Data Management to:
- Full Export: Download ALL your data (profile, entries, conversations) as JSON
- Selective Export: Choose specific banks to export
This gives you full ownership and portability of your data, compliant with GDPR requirements.
Q:
How often are archives created?
Archives are automatically created every night at 23:59 (11:59 PM). Each archive contains all conversations from that day, organized by layer and timestamp.
Q:
What should I do if I encounter an error?
Most errors are temporary. Try refreshing the page first. If the problem persists:
- Check your internet connection
- Clear your browser cache
- Contact support through your account settings
Account & Privacy
Q:
Can I delete my account completely?
Yes! You have the Right to be Forgotten under GDPR. Go to Settings → Account → Danger Zone to permanently delete your account and ALL associated data. This action requires your password and typing "DELETE" to confirm. Once deleted, data cannot be recovered.
Q:
What exactly gets deleted when I delete my account?
Everything is permanently removed:
- All entries (SANCTUM, NOETICA, DREAMS, FUTURE)
- All conversations (VEIL, ABYSS, DREAMS)
- Your profile and preferences
- All archives and backups
- Your user account itself
We recommend exporting your data first if you want to keep a copy.
Q:
What are the 4 banks (SANCTUM, NOETICA, DREAMS, FUTURE)?
Your entries are automatically categorized into 4 banks:
- SANCTUM: Facts, events, and concrete happenings from the past
- NOETICA: Feelings, emotions, and emotional states
- DREAMS: Dream journal entries and subconscious content
- FUTURE: Goals, aspirations, plans, and scheduled future events
The AI automatically routes content to the appropriate bank based on what you write.
